Analogue Transcription

It takes approximately 1½-2 hours* to transcribe a 30 minute tape depending on the clarity of the tape, the type of transcription required, how many people are dictating and whether there is any technical information, specialist terminology, or accents.

Based on the above a 60 minute recording should take 4-5 hours to transcribe.  This is providing the transcription is clear, ie without factors that could cause the audio file to be difficult to transcribe within the time specified, such as background noise, accents, several people speaking at the same time.

The above is taken from an example of a clear tape of one or two persons dictating.

For interview tapes of more than 2 people speaking, or verbatim transcription, the transcription time would be increased.

It should be noted that if more than one person is speaking at the same time then the typist would have to keep going back over the tape to clarify what the speaker was saying and this would increase the transcription time.  Verbatim transcription involves the document being checked against the audio file for accuracy.  Normal transcription will require spellcheck only.

The analogue file will be converted to digital format and sent back to the client with instructions on how to play the file to check any discrepancies in the transcription.  The analogue tape will be posted or delivered by hand back to the client.

Sound files will be uploaded on to our secure server together with the typed document for the client to download.  You will be allocated a log-in and password to enable you to upload/download your files.

*Verbatim transcription takes 30 minutes longer (approximately)
