 Digital Transcription

Online Digital Audio Transcription Services in the UK

Transcription normally takes ONE hour for each 10-15 minutes of a tape.

Based on the above a 60 minute recording should take 4-6 hours to transcribe.

This is providing the transcription is clear, therefore without factors that could cause the audio file to be difficult to transcribe within the time specified, such as background noise, accents, several people speaking at the same time.

The above is taken from an example of clear dictation of one person dictating.

For interview tapes of more than 2 people speaking, verbatim transcription, the time would be increased.
Please follow the link to the BBC Open University Website to find out more about transcribing and dictating.

It should be noted that if more than one person is speaking at the same time then the typist would have to keep going back over the tape to clarify what the speaker was saying and this would increase the transcription time.

Sound files can be uploaded on to our secure server, typed and either mailed back to you or, for confidentiality, uploaded on to our secure server for you to download.  You will be allocated a log-in and password to enable you to upload/download your files.
